MEMORIES
Century exceeding history of Konyalı abounds with many memories . Nurettin Doğanbey who spent his 60 years for Konyalı tells some of his memories;
I had lived most of my memories in Konyalı Topkapı Palace branch that began operation in 1967. I have an assertion about hosting most number of kings, queens, empires and presidents.
The Queen Elizabeth
That day, we were asked for to call the Queen Elizabeth Majesty. There was Sirkeci – Edirne railway just below the place where they had their lunch. After lunch began, a locomotive stopped and began to hoot. We thought it was a signal to go straight or turn back. However, hooter didn't stop and we sent someone to ask him to stop his hooter and we learned that locomotive driver was hooting to catch attention of the Queen Elizabeth and wanted her to say hello to him.
They are feeding fishes!
Just after this incident, another one occurred. In those days, paddies were breaking up from their husks at factories and mills in Balat. Husks were being dumped to the sea from Hayırsız Island . On that day, they began to dump the husks to the sea from Sarayburnu. It looked like there was a carpet on the sea. Majesty saw that view and asked what was dumped into the sea. One of the responsible from Turkish committee told her they were feeding fishes. |
